Análisis de la unidad poblacional de la merluza de cola (Macruronus magellanicus). Estudio de las variaciones morfológicas somáticas y de los otolitos en relación con su distribución geográfica OceanDocs
Jerez, B.; Hernández, D.R.; Giussi, A.R.; Malaspina, A.M..
To determine the existence of different population units of longtail hake (Macruronus magellanicus) of the Argentine Sea, the meristic and morphometric characters of 861 specimens from two different areas were studied measuring 24 body distances with the landmark methods. Besides, the relation among weight, width and thickness of 806 pairs of sagittae otoliths as a function of length and sex of individuals was analyzed. Using the General Linear Model, the Principal Component Analysis and the Multivariate Analysis of Variance the fitted morphometric variables, the meristic characters and their relation to the Area and Sex factors were assessed. The variability observed does not show any conclusive evidence about the existence of more than one stock in the...

Distribución del mercurio total en los tejidos de un delfín nariz de botella (Tursiops gephyreus Lahille, 1908) de la provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina) OceanDocs
Malaspina, A.M.; Pérez, A.; Moreno, V.J.; Bastida, R.O.; Aizpun, J.E..
Samples of seventeen different tissues of one specimen of the bottlenose dolphin Tursiops gephyreus, caught accidentally in waters adjacent to Mar del Plata by local fishermen (38°00'S; 57°20'W), were analyzed for total mercury distribution. The analytical procedure employed for total mercury involved a wet acid digestion followed by flameless atomic absorption. The method was based essentially on the one proposed by Armstrong and Uthe (1971).

Distribución del mercurio total en pescados y mariscos del Mar Argentino. OceanDocs
Pérez, A.; Moreno, V.J.; Aizpun, J.E.; Malaspina, A.M..
Fish and shellfish samples for total mercury analysis were provided by the local fish export industry. Data collected through the years 1981-83 are processed and information was obtained on actual total mercury values in edible muscle of sampled species. On the basis of these results, future trends in mercury concentration values are hoped to be predicted. The authors suggest a revision of standards in force at present and the proposal of new ones, taking into account species involved and size of specimens.

Variaciones en la composición bioquímica proximal de la anchoíta durante tres temporadas de pesca (1975-1977) OceanDocs
Moreno, V.J.; Aizpun, J.E.; Malaspina, A.M..
Seasonal variations in major biochemical compoenets (lipids, protein and water)as well as in ash content of muscle and filletin remains of Engraulis anchoita were studied separately along three consecutive fishing seasons (May-December 1975, 1976 and 1977). Five to ten adult fish of each sex and of nearly identical length (total length: 160-165 mm)were selected at approximately monthly intervals from commercial catches at Mar del Plata Harbour. During the course of the three sampling periods, the proportions of the different biochemcial components showed a very similar pattern of variation and the difference from one fishing season to another never exceeded one month.
